Crafters From All Over Minnesota Are Making Pouches For Injured Animals In Australia

Crafters from around the world are banding together to make pouches for animals injured in the Australian wildfires. It is hard to fathom being here in the U.S. what massive devastation there is throughout the country and latest statistics by an ecologist at the University of Sydney recently told HuffPost they believe that the number of animals killed has now topped one billion.

For those animals that have survived they are in need of constant care and rehabilitation and comfort, that is where these handmade pouches come in. Jill Arnoldy of Stanchfield, Minnesota said  "It's just heartbreaking. I posted to my quilting friends and crafters and I just got bombarded with people wanting to help. I don't even know some of these people. They said, 'Hey, Jilly. I want to help."

According to KARE11 The Animal Rescue Craft Guild has stated that they need protective pouches, blankets, knitted nests, as well as dog and neonatal kitten sweaters. They have a  Facebook group that gives updates on what is needed and what they have enough of.

Arnoldy is making pouches for the bats and the baby joeys and the baby wallabies. She is working with about 18 other crafters in Minnesota and serves as a leader for Isanti and nearby counties. People can help out the crafters with monetary donations to help ship the items.They're being shipped to the guild's Midwest hub in Antioch, Illinois, then someone at the hub will then ship them to Australia.If you would like to help can contact her on her Facebook page, Jilly Arnoldy.
