The City of Superior has become an ATV-friendly metro over the last year as councilors voted to allow the use of recreational vehicles in town - on trails that utilize city streets and alleys.  That vote didn't come without cause for concern from some.  Now, it appears that they're set to make sure that those who do use their ATV's within city limits are set to cover any damages they might cause.

Following introduction by City Councilor Craig Sutherland, Superior's Public Safety Commission approved changing the ordinance to mandate liability insurance for recreational vehicle users within city limits.  The next step will be action by the council of the whole at their next meeting, scheduled for February 4.

According to news sources, the move by the city would follow a similar action by Douglas County.  Currently, the county requires the insurance - a move that came when they opened most county highways to ATV use last month.  How much coverage a ATV owner/user obtains would be solidified by Wisconsin's legal minimum - which is $25,000 per person for bodily injury or death and a $50,000 maximum per accident and $10,000 for property damage.
