Changes To Mesaba Avenue Project Start July 9
Drivers who utilize Mesaba Avenue/Highway 194 and Central Entrance as part of their daily commute will want to know about some changes occurring in the project area starting Monday, July 9. One of those changes involves the Superior Street Bridge.
Here are the details:
- On Central Entrance, the eastbound right to Mesaba Avenue will be closed
- On Mesaba Avenue, the soutbound right lane will be closed from Central Entrance to 3rd Street
- Access to the west from Mesaba Avenue will only be allowed at West 7th and West 3rd
- West 4th will be closed
- Northbound lanes will be open
In addition, MNDOT is alerting drivers that removal of the Superior Street Bridge over the southbound I-35 on-ramp from Mesaba Avenue will begin. The demolition will require a closure of eastbound Superior Street from Glen Place Drive to the east. This will result in no direct access to northbound Mesaba Avenue from Superior Street. MNDOT officials will have a detour in place - from Superior Street to Garfield Avenue, to Railroad Street, to 5th Avenue West. This detour will be in place through mid-September.
At this point - mid-summer - the project has been advancing nicely. Although we have had some rain, it has not impacted the road work.
