Beijing Restaurant Damaged By Fire
WDIO is reporting that a fire started at Beijing Restaurant on London Road at 5:50 am this morning.
The firefighters were able to gain entry into the building and knock down the fire which had engulfed the entire first floor, but the fire did not extend into the attic space. No one was injured or died and early damage estimates are around $100,000 for the structure and $50,000 for contents inside the building. The Duluth Fire Marshal is investigating the origin and cause of the fire. This is just another delay for fans of the famed eatery.
Owners Cindy Lee and Chang Wang had to deal with equipment problems and delays when they were reopening to the new location. Until July 17, 2013, Beijing Restaurant's location was on a Superior Street strip mall but CVS pharmacy began slowly getting tenants out to make room for the chain store. Beijing Restaurant was the last tenant in the building.
