UPDATE: Anthony Bush Lunch With The History People Cancelled

Anthony Bush played amateur baseball for 19 years. He was a pitching coach for the Proctor Rails for 13 years. He has written for many publications and this Thursday will be speaking at the Ruth Maney room at the Depot. He will be part of Lunch With History People. He will be talking about baseball.Lunch with the History People is free and serves up Arco coffee, and Mr. Bush will be rescheduled for November.

Anthony is a member of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) and has been published on their website (www.SABR.org). His piece on the history of the Wade Stadium was included in the Duluth Huskies’ souvenir game program. Last summer, he spoke at Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum on baseball history.

Anthony discusses “Work or Fight: The 1918 Duluth-Mesaba League & How the Great War Brought Great Baseball to the Twin Ports & the Range.” at the event. In addition to the war, this was the time of the Cloquet Fire and the Spanish Flu. According to Anthony, “The baseball faithful were treated to the best league the area has ever known as many of the nation's current major- and minor-league players flocked to Duluth. They came to Duluth's Riverside neighborhood, Hibbing and Superior to find industrial work deemed essential to the war effort, and to play a little Sunday baseball.”
