The city of Duluth could be adding another new hotel to the roster by the Miller Hill Mall In Duluth. According to Fox 21 the four floor 82 room hotel would be a Fairfield Inn and Suites. The company out of St. Cloud wants to build the hotel at the corner of Maple Grove Road and Cottonwood Avenue. The company, Brutger Equities also owns the Days Inn which would be next to this hotel property.

Adam Fulton is the city’s deputy director of Planning and Economic Development said “We have continued to have strong interest in new hotel development and are supportive of new investment and reinvestment in commercial properties in the Miller Hill neighborhood. I’d emphasize that we see this as a positive step for the Miller Hill neighborhood. I realize there have been some questions about that in the community because of some of the mall area vacancies, but it is my opinion that while this may be indicative of national retail trends; while important to consider, such trends are not necessarily indicative of weak demand in the Duluth area market.”

With all the major events we have in Duluth each year plus with the amount of tourists year round all these new hotels should mean booming business for the economy and make Duluth a travel destination for more people. The planning commision still needs to vote on the decision April 9 and if approved the company could break ground the next day.
