The Allman Brothers Band Reveals More ‘Fillmore East’ Box Set Details
More details are emerging as fans await 'The 1971 Fillmore East Recordings,' an expanded look at the Allman Brothers Band's seminal live album.
The box set, due July 29 from Universal Music Group and featuring six CDs with 37 tracks, focuses on both the Allmans' March 12-13 Fillmore performances as well as their return visit on June 27 to help bid farewell to the legendary concert space. Taken together, these shows will yield a whopping 15 new performances.
That includes a never-before-heard set of six tracks from March 12, 1971. The same day's second set also featured previously unreleased versions of 'Statesboro Blues,' 'Don't Keep Me Wonderin',' 'In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed' and 'Whipping Post.' Another four new tracks from two sets recorded on March 13, 1971 have also been unearthed. A final previously unreleased track features the introduction given to the Allman Brothers Band by Fillmore East owner Bill Graham, who handpicked them to help close out the venue.
'The 1971 Fillmore East Recordings' was produced by Bill Levenson, who also oversaw last year's comprehensive 'Skydog' retrospective focusing on the late Duane Allman. Since, the Allmans have announced that a series of 2014 concerts will be their last, concluding with a stand at New York City's Beacon Theatre in October.
