It looks like commuters in the Twin Ports will be taking detours a little longer. Originally the closure and repair of southbound I-35 in Duluth was scheduled to take less than a week. A new timetable released by the Minnesota Department of Transportation revises that schedule and it now appears that drivers will face the closure for 3 to 4 weeks.
Drivers traveling north and south on I-35, just south of Boundary Avenue in Duluth will be restricted to a single lane beginning Monday, April 29th. Crews will be busy constructing a media crossover - weather permitting. Motorists will be restricted to a single lane for about a mile.
It was only supposed to last two years. Then, Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton shut down operations last summer over the budget impasse; Those four weeks of idling orange cones has dragged the I-35 Mega Project in the Twin Ports into Year Three.
