People are still struggling 6 months after the June floods in the city and outside the city limits. Flood Homes with Hope has stepped up to help relieve a little stress and help with the health of the house during these winter months.
With all the snow falling and people complaining about not being plowed out fast or the streets not looking their best right away, i am reminded of a page I saw on the Duluth website answering questions about snow removal. So, I revisited the questions.
Do you know this person? The photo is from a Walmart surveillance camera. The female in the photo is believed to be in possession of credit cards that were stolen from the Miller Hill Mall on Saturday, January 12th 2013.
The Duluth Police Department is looking for your help in locating a wanted individual - who has two felony warrants for his arrest for violation of probation, stemming from burglary, auto theft, and financial transaction card fraud cases.
And you thought the cold temperatures and snow meant winter; One of the Twin Ports SURE signs that we're in the winter season arrives in town today - as the John G Munson slowly slides into the Port of Duluth-Superior - marking the last arriving ship of the season.
Winter's sub-zero temperatures bring the Northland into what's often referred to as the "home heating fire season". Accidents can sometimes happen and with people looking for ways to keep their home warm, they unfortunately sometimes take shortcuts when it comes to basic fire safety.
As we start to slowly crawl our way out of an extended cold snap, everyone in the Twin Ports is talking about whether or not the Winter of 2012-2013 will go down as one of the worst we've seen in a while.
Seven-hundred cases of milk are on their way to Superior, with a planned-giveaway to happen on Wednesday January 23rd - starting at 10AM. Superior and Douglas County residents in need will be able to pick up a case or two for free, outside of the Solid Rock Mission.
The lack of good quality snow has led the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation to cancel the BirkieTour that was scheduled for this Saturday, January 19th. That snow deficit has led to poor trail conditions and skier safety concerns. Even though additional snow is in the forecast for the next day, that new snow would be quickly sheared off - especially on downhills - exposing the solid ice trail base and creating hazardous ski conditions.
