Superior Storm Sewer Project To Alleviate Two Major Drainage Issues; Work Happens Ahead Of Two-Year Belknap Street Overhaul
You may have head that there is a major two-year rebuild project coming in 2017 and 2018 for Belknap Street in Superior. The work will totally rebuild the major thoroughfare - a project that hasn't happened in more than a generation. You may have also heard about flooding, drainage, and storm water problems in the city. A major project that is expected to start in May stems from both of those facts.
If a successful bid is awarded, crews from the City of Superior will oversee the creation of a new storm water tunnel that will consist of approximately 2000 feet of new storm sewer that will discharge to a new storm water basin and 1650 feet of new sanitary sewer to maintain sewer service for crossings on Poplar Avenue. Poplar Avenue and N 12th Street will receive new roadway surfaces, under-drains, and curb and gutter within the storm sewer project area.
Many households in the area near Poplar Avenue have experienced basement flooding. In addition, a major portion of the Belknap Street business district lack adequate drainage.
