Northland Law Enforcement Kicks Off Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over Campaign
It's common sense AND it's the law: Don't drink and drive! Law enforcement agencies in northeast Minnesota are getting ready to kick off a combined campaign to raise awareness of the impact drunk driving can have with a campaign that kicks off on Monday, August 18.
The public is invited to attend a session that starts at 2PM at the Duluth Public Safety Building - 2030 North Arlington Ave in Duluth.
The following speakers will make presentations:
- Holly Kostrzewski, Northeast Minnesota Regional Toward Zero Deaths coordinator
- Lt. Chad Nagorski, Duluth Police Department
- Sgt. Neil Dickenson, Minnesota State Patrol
- Alex and Debbie Balluff (mother of Alex). Alex sustained a traumatic brain injury after being struck by an impaired driver
During the last five years, 656 people were killed in alcohol-related crashes on Minnesota roads. During the 5-year period, 2009-2013, 33 percent of fatalities and serious injuries in northeast Minnesota were alcohol-related. In 2013 alone, nearly 26,000 motorists were cited for DWI. Daily saturations will occur around the college campuses during “Move-in Week” (Aug. 25-29).
