Lunch With The History People Welcomes Tony Dierckins To Discuss Duluth’s Lost Grand Old Stage Theaters

Lunch with the History People is a forum that welcomes people who are making art, books, pictures, or otherwise, about Minnesota or Duluth. Hosted by the Depot, this month they welcome Tony Dierckins.

Tony Dierckins is a local author, book designer and publisher. He has authored or co-authored almost two dozen books. His non-fiction work entitled Crossing the Canal; An Illustrated History of Duluth’s Aerial Bridge was a 2009 Minnesota Book Award finalist. In 2012, the Depot Foundation awarded him the “Historic Preservation and Interpretation Award.” About a year ago, Dierckins created the Zenith City Online website to share the history of the area. The site includes historical articles by Dierckins, along with submissions from other local historians.

Thursday, May 16, 2013, from noon – 1 PM

Tony will discuss “Duluth's Lost Grand Old Stage Theaters.” His presentation is derived from the book, which he co-authored with Maryanne C. Norton, entitled Lost Duluth. The lecture focuses on the time period from 1869 to 1966 and illustrates how “live” theater started in Duluth, Minnesota. Discover how these elaborate structures affected the community and the people associated with them, from politicians to a few of Duluth’s more unsavory residents.

The event will be held in the Ruth Maney Room, on the first floor of the St. Louis County Heritage & Arts Center (the Depot), at 506 West Michigan Street, Duluth, Minnesota.

There will be limited theater-style seating (no tables), but feel free to bring your own bag lunch. Seating is first-come, first-served (no reservations). Admittance to this event is free to the public. ARCO coffee is provided.
