I Went To Memphis + Came Back With A New Outlook On Life
If you listened The New Breakfast Club with Ken And Lauren last week, you probably heard me mention that I was heading out on a trip. Other than that, I kept details scarce at the time in hopes I'd have lots to share when I got back.
On Thursday, I hit the road after the first hour of the show. I was lucky enough to have the chance to go to Memphis, TN to learn about St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the amazing people behind it. It's a cause B105 is very passionate about and has been for years. Prior to this trip, I knew of the hospital but really didn't know much else.
The next day, along with other radio representatives from across the country, I toured the famous hospital in person. From the second I walked through the doors, I knew St. Jude Children's Research Hospital was a special place. Although what happens through the doors is dark and devastating, the hospital had a bright atmosphere. You can tell it was created with love. You can feel it.
For the first half of the day, we got to walk the halls of the hospital, meeting patients and the doctors that save their lives. The building itself is incredible. Every single inch of it has been thoroughly thought out and planned to perfection. From the chapel to the kitchen to the art on the walls, this is one of the most special places I've ever been.
The staff was also incredible. Many that talked to us had been touched by cancer in some way. Some were survivors while others have stood by family. The employees truly deal with every aspect of a patient's care and have thought of everything. For example, they have music therapists on staff and an art gallery as a way of helping patient's cope with their diagnosis. It is a very moving experience to walk that particular hallway.
If you ever get the chance, visit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. You will be changed forever. I will be sharing more about my amazing trip over the next few weeks so stay tuned!
