Fall activities are here and this Sunday we set our clocks back one hour and a great time to check and change the batteries on our smoke alarms. But why and when did this all start?

The main purpose of Daylight Saving Time or "Summer Time" in many places in the world, is to make use of daylight. Moving more daylight from the morning to the evening.

The idea came for Benjamin Franklin when he was an American delegate in Paris in 1784 in an essay called "an Economical Project." Economics played a party in this as in saving energy and hopes of encouraging people to go out and shop. Check out more great information about this daylight saving time story.

Sure smoke detectors are not part of DST,  just a great way to remember to change the battery's in your homes safety device.
