It’s rare that musicians are around to celebrate their 100th birthday with the rigors of a concert tour. Elvis Costello, who was born in 1954, is fully aware of this and has announced six solo concerts in California for this fall that he is calling “2054 – The Centenary Show.”

“This show may contain any song I’ve written,” he said via press release. “Some you will know already, some are the hits of tomorrow. I’m playing this show now in the unlikely event that I’m not around to perform the songs on the appointed date. Don’t be late, we’re going to have a big time”

We’re not really sure how this is going to differ from other Costello shows where, from our own experiences, he often pulls out obscurities from his incredibly vast and diverse catalog. And his Spectacular Spinning Songbook concerts with the Imposters prove that anything can happen whenever he takes the stage.

Still, Costello, who will turn 58 in August, may have to rule out some of his more complex songs because they won’t translate well to a solo guitar arrangement. But if it means there’s a possibility of hearing, say, ‘Strict Time’ or ‘Town Crier’ instead of the 19,248th performance of ‘Alison’ or ”Veronica,’ we’ll be sure to be in attendance if these shows come anywhere near us. Just please, Elvis, nothing from ‘North.’
