And you thought the cold temperatures and snow meant winter;  One of the Twin Ports SURE signs that we're in the winter season arrives in town today - as the John G Munson slowly slides into the Port of Duluth-Superior - marking the last arriving ship of the season.

Final numbers for tonnage for the 2012 season are still being calculated, but officials suggest that it should come in just shy of 37 million tons.

The winter lay-up on the Great Lakes is short-lived when you put it in perspective;  The 2013 shipping season is expected to open in late March, when the Soo Locks open for business.
