While the weather was extra pleasant for the 2017 Duluth Polar Plunge, it still took plenty of bravery to jump into the icy water of Lake Superior. Even with an air temperature in the mid 50s, water temperatures still hovered just above the freezing point - where they normally are no matter whether there's ice on the lake or not.

Roughly 900 plungers braved the frigid water in support of Special Olympics Minnesota, raising over $125,000 for the cause. This was the second of two events benefitting Special Olympics Minnesota on Saturday. A 5K run on Saturday morning saw almost 140 individuals participate, raising about $5,000 toward Special Olympics Minnesota.
