Thomas Edison believed in ghosts, he once did an interview talking about something he was working on an apparatus he called it, that could contact people who passed on. He wanted proof of the afterlife. .

The truth of the matter is that mediums and séances were all the rage in his time. So being the scientist that he was he wanted to have something that could contact people on the other side and see if these people were tricking others to get money, or if they really could contact the other side.

He once said in a quote I found on about.com

“I don’t claim that our personalities pass on to another existence or sphere,” he told Scientific American. “I don’t claim anything because I don’t know anything about the subject. For that matter, no human being knows. But I do claim that it is possible to construct an apparatus which will be so delicate that if there are personalities in another existence or sphere who wish to get in touch with us in this existence or sphere, the apparatus will at least give them a better opportunity to express themselves than the tilting tables and raps and ouija boards and mediums and the other crude methods now purported to be the only means of communication.”

People who were close to him never saw the machine he was working on. Scientists have gone through all of his notes trying to see what he was working on, but have come up with nothing. They have tried to find find prototypes or drawings. Did Edison know the secret and contacted the dead, only to find that it was technology that was dangerous and destroyed it. Some have used oujia boards and say it’s a portal. Did Edison try something and felt that no one should get their hands on his invention.

We will never know.
