It's another big weekend at the cineplex, with the return of one of the most famous superheroes of all time, plus an end-of-the-world story about a bunch of stoners played by actors playing themselves. Should be fun whichever path you take.
The summer movie season keeps chugging right along. (Yes, we realize it isn't technically summer yet, but as far as movies are concerned, it is.) This weekend we get a dose of comedy and a dash of the spooks, so take your pick, moviegoers.
You've been hearing about it now for months, and it's finally here: the latest installment in Marvel's highly lucrative 'Avengers' film family, 'Iron Man 3.' Apparently all the other movies were a bit scared off, and considering the gigantic openings of the lasttwo 'Iron Man' flicks, it's hard to blame them.
We're still two months away from the official start of summer, but we have our first "summer blockbuster"-type film opening this weekend at our local Marcus Theatres, along with a smaller, darker crime picture with an absurdly good-looking cast.
Looks like we're in for a thrilling weekend at our local Marcus Theatres. The one new release is a remake of a 1980s horror classic, and we also get a 3-D-updated edition of a major '90s sci-fi blockbuster.
You can't imagine two films more different than 'The Croods' and 'Olympus Has Fallen,' but right now the two of them sit on top of the box office chart, both temporarily linked by the fact that a bunch of people apparently wanted to see them this weekend. It's the first time in forever that two films have opened to over $30 million at the same time...but it wasn't golden for all of the new releases.
It's a busy weekend at our local Marcus Theatres. Comedy, action, animated fare for the kids—a solid mix for a good range of audiences, those of you who aren't sitting in front of the TV watching March Madness, that is.
The recent 'Amazing Spider-Man' and the upcoming 'Man of Steel' seem to get all the attention regarding studios' attempt to "reboot" franchises, but that's pretty much the same thing as what's going on with 'Oz the Great and Powerful.' If it succeeds at the box office, we may end up with a new version of 'The Wizard of Oz' at some point very soon, even though the producers have said that's not their goal.
Also opening this week at our local Marcus Theatres is a dark tale of blackmail and revenge.
This week we have four new releases at our local Marcus Theatres, covering four different genres and targeting four different audiences: fairy-tale action epic, a coming-of-age (21) comedy, supernatural horror, and a submarine thriller.
