It seems like we recycle more things every year.  I remember when recycling first came to the forefront in  the early to mid-1990's:  the focus was on paper, glass, plastic, and tin.  Then - as time went on - we were encouraged to expand our recycling ways by adding Styrofoam and so-called "higher-number plastics".

The Environmental Services division of St. Louis County has declared 2015 as the year of the carton.  You know what we're talking about - those containers that milk, stock, juice, and liquids are usually sold in.

Maybe I was wrong, but I always recycled these containers - under the assumption that they were paper products.

St. Louis County offered the following fact that should make you think twice about discarding cartons in the trash:

Hospitals, schools and other institutions that offer food service can see a huge reduction in their trash, and consequently their waste bill, by recycling cartons. For example, a school with 500 students goes through nearly 420 trash bags of cartons in a year.
