David Lee Roth has always been as much style as substance, and in an interview with the New York Post, he says today’s bands are lacking that proper mixture — an opinion he says is shared by other (unnamed) artists as well.
The story behind the lyrics to Van Halen‘s new song ‘As Is’ is more entertaining than the song itself, and that’s not a criticism of the song. In the video below, David Lee Roth explains how the song is about a car the band used in their early days and why it now sits in his home in Pasadena, Calif. with a deer coming through the windshield.
On the surface, things are going smoothly for the Van Halen reincarnate. They’ve successfully released ‘A Different Kind of Truth,’ their first new album with David Lee Roth since 1984, and there is nothing to indicate anything will get in the way of their upcoming U.S. tour.
Def Leppard‘s 2012 trip around the globe is turning into a quasi hair band festival. Poison drummer has confirmed rumors started by lead singer Bret Michaels. The two bands will once again hit the road together this summer.
Interviews from nearly every member of Van Halen will be included amongst the five hours of airtime Howard Stern is dedicating to the tumultuous history of the band. This Tuesday (Feb. 7) Stern will air ‘The Whole Truth: The Howard Stern/Van Halen Special’ on Sirius/XM Radio.
Last night in Los Angeles, Van Halen gave critics and industry types even more reason to be optimistic about the upcoming U.S. tour. The band played for over an hour at Henson Studios in Hollywood, including three new cuts from ‘A Different Kind of Truth‘ amongst the greatest hits set list.
Elton John is a king holding court over a crowd of jokers and jesters in an upcoming Super Bowl commercial for Pepsi. He and ‘X Factor‘ winner Melanie Amaro recently filmed the spot, and shared behind the scenes footage of the ad.
British fans of Van Halen can purchase two new songs from ‘A Different Kind of Truth,’ which are so far unavailable in the United States. ‘Blood and Fire’ is available on the UK Amazon, as is an until now unreleased song called ‘The Trouble With Never.’
The name of ‘Blood and Fire,’ a newly-previewed song from Van Halen‘s ‘A Different Kind of Truth’ album, probably won’t ring familiar to longtime fans of the band. But Alex Van Halen’s beat and Eddie Van Halen’s noodling on the track may take some knowledgeable fans back to the mid-’80s. That’s because the new song — previewed in the video below — is based on an instrumental called ‘Ripley’ from ‘The Wild Life’ movie.
Rock legend Neil Young doesn’t have a bone to pick with the artists of today (well, he may but he didn’t sound off about it this week) but he is upset with the quality of recordings purchased through digital retailers.
John Fogerty revealed he’s been working on a new solo album that could include an all-star lineup of guest appearances. The odds of him patching things up with former Creedence Clearwater Revival bandmates for this project, a separate project or a future tour remain slimmer than Vanilla Ice being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. (Sad thing is, even he might get in before Rush or Kiss.)
