Former Minnesota Vikings superstar Adrian Peterson is joining the sixth NFL team in his career.

It was announced Monday afternoon that the Tennessee Titans had signed Peterson to their practice squad, with the plan to move him to their active roster.

Peterson echoed the news of the signing with a re-tweet branded with his trademarked "All Day" stamp of approval.

The signing came in the wake of devastating news for the Tennessee Titans that their powerhouse running back Derrick Henry suffered a foot injury on Sunday. Henry will undergo surgery on Tuesday, sidelining him for a majority of (if not all of) the rest of the season.

To fill the void, the Titans are bringing in some depth in the form of a 7-time Pro Bowler. Peterson became a free agent after spending 2020 in Detroit with the Lions. The 36-year old AP has been sitting idle so far this year, waiting for a team to call on him for his services.

The future Hall of Famer enters his tenure with the Titans only 449 yards short of Barry Sanders's mark for 4th most career rushing yards. With 14,820 total rushing yards, here's a breakdown of where AP stands according to Pro Football Reference:

  1. Emmitt Smith: 18,355 yards (+3,535 yards)
  2. Walter Payton: 16,726 yards (+1,906 yards)
  3. Frank Gore: 16,000 yards (+1,180 yards)
  4. Barry Sanders: 15,269 yards (+449 yards)
  5. Adrian Peterson: 14,820 yards

Peterson will join Jeremy McNichols in the Tennessee backfield after being promoted to the active roster, which NFL.com anticipates will be operated by committee.

Since leaving Minnesota after the 2016 season, Peterson has contributed no less than 500 yards each year. He logged 529 yards and 2 touchdowns in a 2017 season where he split time between Arizona and New Orleans, 1,042 yards and 7 touchdowns his first year in Washington, 898 yards and 5 touchdowns his second year there in 2019, and 604 yards and 7 touchdowns last year in Detroit.
