I like ketchup. I use it on all the things I'm not supposed to. The spicy variety is my favorite. I'll give this a try..why not? I might even find more items I'm not supposed to use it on.

Heinz, the country’s ketchup king, doesn’t seem to want to rest on its tomatoes. How else to explain the release of a new ketchup flavor that substitutes balsamic vinegar for the classic white vinegar?

Heinz Tomato Ketchup Blended with Balsamic Vinegar is being marketed as “more sophisticated” than the original. And in an attempt to create buzz around the new product, Heinz has announced that it will come in a glass bottle and only be available through Facebook until December.

The big question is, why? American households don’t consume 1.3 bottles of ketchup a month because they think it needs improving. But this move from Heinz probably shouldn’t come as a surprise because it’s not the first time the company has tried to improve on an otherwise perfect product.

In 2000, Heinz introduced blue, purple, pink, green and orange ketchup marketed to kids. The rainbow of products were discontinued in 2006. And just last year, the company altered its famous formula by cutting 60 percent of the salt.
