WLSSD Extends Closure Of All Solid Waste Facilities
The Western Lake Superior Sanitary District (WLSSD) will extend its closure of their facilities to comply with Governor Tim Walz' extending his Stay at Home order, to continue to limit the spread of COVID-19. The closures to WLSSD services will continue until further notice.
The closures include the following locations:
- WLSSD Administrative Offices, 2626 Courtland St. will close to public traffic, but staff will continue to assist the public by telephone and via email.
- WLSSD Materials Recovery Center (MRC) off Rice Lake Road.
- WLSSD Household Hazardous Waste Facility, on 27th Ave West.
During the closures staff at WLSSD are encouraging people to hold on to materials that do not belong in the trash or to find alternatives to dispose of the material like garbage haulers.
WDIO reports Marianne Bohren, WLSSD executive director said in a press release. "We are aware that many people are anticipating the opening of our Yard Waste Compost Site. They are cleaning up their yards while they respect the Stay at Home Order. In compliance with the Governor’s order, we will remain closed. We hope that people will hold onto their yard waste until its safe for us to open. We remain committed to our work to protect public health and the natural environment."
When I Moved I had gallons and gallons of old paint and other items that were not fit to put in the garbage. The employees at WLSSD were awesome they came right out to my car and grabbed everything and it was free, so be patient they will re-open as soon as they can. Don't be that person that dumps stuff in your garbage can because you can't wait, your yard waste and paint cans are not going anywhere.
