According to her Bio, Sheila is from the Bay Area following in the footsteps of her percussionist father Pete Escovedo (who played for Carlos Santana); musical uncles Coke Escovedo, Alejandro Escovedo, Mario Escovedo, and Javier Escovedo; and her godfather Tito Puente. She soon made a name for herself.

Sheila met Prince during the recording of the blockbuster movie Purple Rain and soon joined the Prince circle, singing on some of his famous songs like Erotic City. She soon put out her own album, The Glamorous Life, featuring the title track and also released other hits. She then joined Prince some years later in support of the Sign Of The Times tour as his drummer. At one point, Sheila says she was engaged to Prince.
