Which Fireworks Are Legal And Illegal In Minnesota?

When I was a kid I was always told fireworks were illegal in Minnesota, that's why we shot them off at our cabin in Wisconsin.

I never saw fireworks tents until I was older, they were always in Wisconsin in our way to our cabin. Fireworks are legal in Minnesota, but not all of them. How do you know? There is a website for information. It's the State Fire Marshall.

It is legal to possess certain fireworks in the state of Minnesota. Which ones are they? According to the Fire Marshall's Website, these are the legal ones:

• Wire or wood sparklers
• Cylindrical Showering Fireworks emits a shower of sparks
• Cone Fountain
• Illuminating Torch
• Wheel, it emits a shower of color
  and sparks and, sometimes, a whistling
  effect
• Ground Spinner - Small device the showers sparks while spinning around
• Flitter Sparkler - Narrow paper tube
  that produces color and sparks.
• Flash/Strobe - Emit a bright light

Here are the ones that are illegal:

• Firecrackers (any size)
• Ladyfingers
• Skyrockets
• Bottle rockets
• Missile type rockets
• Helicopters, aerial spinners,
  planes, UFOs
• Roman Candles
• Mines or shells (heavy cardboard
  or paper tube(s) attached to a
  base – upon ignition stars, balls or
  reports are propelled into the air)
• Chasers
• Parachutes
• Class B Fireworks
• Aerial shells
• Theatrical pyrotechnics (Have to get a license)

Fireworks may not be used on public property, so you can't go to a park, use a public road or alley, can't bring them to school or school property, and it's a big no-no to light them off at a government building. One part of the law says you have to be at least 18 years old and retailers will card you because they are putting their reputation on the line. It could mean the end of their license to sell.

Always be safe, make sure you know the laws of which state you are in. Don't hold any fireworks, if they are deemed safe that doesn't mean you do stupid things with them.
