Well, it's in the news and everyone's talking about Ebola now that it has hit the shores of the United States.  Internally, we have had one of our co-workers on location in Texas while the first cases of Ebola were breaking out in Texas - so - it made me wonder:  What are the signs and symptoms of the Ebola virus?

To alleviate any panic and conjecture, I went straight to the source that should know what they're talking about:  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  Here is what the CDC lists as symptoms:

  • Fever (greater than 38.6°C or 101.5°F)
  • Severe headache
  • Muscle pain
  • Weakness
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal (stomach) pain
  • Unexplained hemorrhage (bleeding or bruising)

Contracting the disease requires you to have had contact with the bodily fluid of someone who has it already.  Symptoms can appear anywhere from 2 to 21 days after exposure to Ebola, but the average is 8 to 10 days.
