Astronaut Chris Hadfield is well known for doing new things in space and making videos to explain what it's like to be up there. One of his favorite artists is David Bowie. My friend, and a well established Canadian musician and writer,  Emm Gryner arranged this song and helped him record it and edit it together.

Here's Chris and his video from space, which if you haven't seen, it's wonderful with shots of space and the space station. All filmed by him and he also really sang this for the video. At the time Chris was just honoring one of his favorite artists with a song that he could show how lonely and exciting it is in space and working on the space station. The cinematography that he pulled off is unbelievable.

Bowie and Hadfield had a connection with the song, according to The Verge, David Bowie said the "Space Oddity" cover was "possibly the most poignant version of the song ever created." And when YouTube yanked the video over licensing issues, Bowie worked with his publisher to extend the copyright agreement, allowing the video to stay online until November 2016.

Chris Hadfield posted on his website,

"It leaves me and, I suspect, millions around the world, with an instant feeling of loss and emptiness – and yet also a wistful joy, a sense of how creative and inspirational just one of us can be. His art defined an image of outer space, inner self, and a rapidly changing world for a generation finding themselves at the confluence."

Chris is very well known for sending out you tube vids for all of his space stuff. He has shown why you can't cry in space and does some education for kids while he was up there too. Here he is with musician Emm Gryner.

Here's Emm Gryner and her music.
