Placing a child in a car seat and making sure that's properly-fitted is the number one way parents can protect their child while riding in a car.  But often their expense can be a barrier to upgrades for many young families.

That's the impetus behind a national-event offered by Walmart.  During the Car Seat Trade In Event - happening September 16 through September 30, parents can bring in their old, outgrown car seats to their local Walmart and trade them in for credit towards the purchase of a new one.  Locally the Superior, Hermantown, and Cloquet Walmart are taking part.

Here's how the event works:  Just bring in an older, outgrown car seat to the Customer Service Desk at Walmart during normal business hours.  You'll get a $30 Walmart gift card that can be used in the store - or online - towards the purchase of items for your baby.  In turn, the old car seat will be properly recycled to prevent the plastic parts from reaching a landfill.

While there are a few qualifications, this sounds like a good deal for many parents.  According to Walmart's website, the event is only valid at participating locations - however, the website does list all of the Twin Ports-area locations as participating.  There is a limit of only two gift cards per household.  Booster seats are not eligible as part of the recyling/trade in offer.
