UMD Women Lose To #2 Wisconsin In WCHA Playoffs
The UMD women had a lot of records set by individuals this year, but it didn't matter in the end as the University of Wisconsin took out the Bulldogs 4-1.
WCHA was holding their tournament over the weekend with the number 8 UMD women taking on the number 2 Wisconsin Badgers. Senior year for the Legendary Goalie Maddie Rooney, who won gold for the USA team against Canada. UMD was hoping for the same thing, to come up with a miracle against the always hard to play Badgers. The Badgers have been the New England Patriots of the WCHA and NCAA.
umdbulldogs.com reported that Wisconsin went up 1-0, then UMD answered with a goal. Then Wisconsin took the lead again, and another and another. The thing that might have won the game for Wisconsin is the fact that UMD never had a power play and the Badgers capitalized on theirs.
According to the UMD Bulldogs, the team will lose 5 seniors, one them being Maddie Rooney who will hold a number of records, including a career 3,449 saves which may never be broken.
