Now that we are getting warmer temperatures and I see people walking their dogs, once the trees start to bud, it means the ticks will be out soon.

This year, I am reading on the internet the predictions are saying that this will be one of the worst years for ticks for pets and humans. Checking for them is annoying and you can't always find them. It's hard enough on humans, let alone your pets especially dogs with all that hair.

I have found many recipes, but this one from ohsimply.com seems to be the easiest and least odor.

According to website, for your pet, you just need to add 1 cup of normal water to a spray bottle. The next step is to add 2 cups of white vinegar (distilled). Now that might not smell the greatest so you can add two spoonfuls of vegetable or almond oil, which both contain sulfur (another natural tick repellent). You can alter this to be a tick repellant too. Just mix in a few spoonfuls of lemon juice, citrus oil, or peppermint oil, which will all repel ticks and fleas while also creating a scented repellent. Spray onto their dry fur and work it in. They recommend spraying every day.

Also on the ohsimply.com website for humans,You need to take a spray bottle, and just like the recipe for pets, mix 2 cups of clean, distilled white vinegar with 1 cup of water. To make sure you don't smell like vinegar add about 20 drops of a sweet bath oil. Eucalyptus oil can also be used and is a more mellow scent and is an excellent natural tick repellent.

If you don't care for that scent, you add citrus, and peppermint oils but they give off a bitter, strong scent. Other oils that work are tea tree oil, cedar oil, geranium oil, eucalyptus essential oil and babassu oil.

Always make sure if you are walking the trails to check for ticks later, this is a cool recipe but not the do all end all.
