The Duluth Fire Department Finally Has New Medical Bags
Members of the Duluth Fire Department can probably rest a little easier now knowing that all 10 Duluth Fire Trucks are now equipped with a new medical bag full of supplies. The department has been trying to secure these bags for years. Given the fact that Firefighters are almost always first on the scene for a medical emergency before an ambulance don't you think they should be supplied with everything they may need Captain Lisa Consie said to WDIO:
Our bags get a lot of use, we carry them in the woods, we bring them into houses, they sit on the street when we do car accidents, so there’s a lot of wear and tear. We are very excited about the new bags.
These new bags are also bigger and brighter making them easier to see and get supplies organized. The red bag is for trauma care and the blue bag is for airway obstructions. Plus the new bags can also be worn as back pack making it easier for a firefighter to get to their patients or to carry through the woods, houses, trails etc..

Another huge benefit of these bags are they are water resistant so if they are out in the rain the materials inside of the bag won't get wet. And, it makes it easier to clean and disinfect after each call, which is extra important in this day and age with the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The Fire Department was also able to get an upgrade on their AED equipment which was from 2012. According to The Red Cross: " An AED, or automated external defibrillator, is used to help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. It's a sophisticated, yet easy-to-use, medical device that can analyze the heart's rhythm and, if necessary, deliver an electrical shock, or defibrillation, to help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm.
