A lot of efforts by many different emergency agencies helped contain last weeks refinery explosion and fire in Superior - preventing the situation from being truly catastrophic.  Since the event, the goodwill nature of the entire Twin Ports community has continued - with many wishing there was a way of showing their thanks.

That's the general message of an event planned for Friday, May 4 - starting at 5:30 PM at Wessman Arena.  Organizers include the City of Superior.  Mayor Jim Paine offered a general invitation to the event on the city's social media - describing the event this way:

"We invite the Superior Community and beyond to join together in thanking the public servants who bravely banded together last week during the Husky Energy fire and subsequent evacuation of areas within Superior, Wisconsin."

A one-hour program is planned, with time afterwards for attendees to mingle with the honored fire and medical personnel.

Mayor Paine also offered the following about the situation:

“It seems fitting to hold a community thank you to all who made sacrifices last week on International Firefighters’ Day, May 4th. Firefighters from Superior and the local area exemplified dedication, commitment and sacrifice last week. We are indebted to their dedication to our community. In addition, there were numerous individuals and organizations, included Husky Emergency Response Team, School District of Superior employees, and other Public Safety officers, who deserve to be celebrated.”

Details can be found on the City of Superior Facebook page.
