In a press release, the Superior Public Library said the decision was in response to a large rise in numbers of COVID-19 cases in Douglas County.

They also said in the press release that it was also due to staff availability due to quarantine, and Governor Evers’ Executive Order for people to stay home to prevent the spread of the pandemic.

Suspend was the word used because the Superior Public Library said they would re-evaluate the suspension of in-house services every two weeks starting on Monday, November 30th. The library said that the evaluations would also coincide with COVID-19 numbers in the county and state and if there are further instructions by the Governor.

In the press release, the Superior Public Library did say that the public has not been exposed they were going to shut down public access to the building. They were also going to suspend use of the public computers and printing services, copying, faxing, public browsing, and checkout.

However, Superior Public Library said they will have contact-free curbside material pick-up available, but only by request by calling (715) 394-8860. They will also accept returns in their outdoor book drop.

Superior Public Library said they will also continue to offer free WiFi, which is accessible from the parking lot, and staff will still be manning the phones for questions and to make requests.

SPL staff will still be available to answer phone calls at (715) 394-8860 between these hours:

  • Monday-Friday: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
  • Tuesdays 10:00 am - 7:00 pm
  • Saturday: 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

Superior Public Library said they have many resources and will keep online services going. They have downloadable materials, online newspapers, classes, they have rotary reads, and others.
