The Superior Police Department has taken to its social media platforms to alert the community about a round of email scams that appear to involve the police.

The way that the scam works is this:  The potential victim gets an email that appears to be coming from the "Police Department", referring to a parking ticket - even including a ticket number to make it appear legitimate.  The email is used by the scammer to initiate an exchange of your personal information that they can use for illegal activities.

The Superior Police Department reminds everyone that they don't communicate with community this way - especially about parking violations.  Any communication would be sent via the U.S. Mail to the registered owner of the vehicle and would include very specific details that would allow you to know that it's legitimate.  Also - as is the case with any time you're wondering about whether or not something is a scam - you can always directly contact the police department via the phone.
