Superior Cancels 4th Of July Fireworks As COVID-19 Cases Increase
Superior Mayor Jim Paine shared via Facebook Friday afternoon that the city's fireworks show on Saturday night will be cancelled.
Paine commented "While I had hoped we would be able to safely hold this event, the recent and rapid rise in local cases of COVID-19 and advice from public health professionals demands more caution."
He continued in his statement on Facebook explaining how important the annual celebration is, but the health and safety of the public is more important.
The move comes just days after a number of Superior bars have announced temporarily closures as potential exposure within the establishments may have occurred over the past couple weeks.
The cancellation also coincides with a message this week from officials with the Wisconsin Department of Health asking people around the state to celebrate the holiday at home as cases surge across the Badger State.
