St. Luke’s Announces Updated Visitor Policy Which Allows More Visitors

St. Luke's has announced an update to their official visitor policy which will allow more visitors to enter their facilities, as long as they follow strict safety rules.

Overall, most patients will now be allowed two visitors per day, with some exceptions in place. The policy change is a direct result of a recent decrease in cases of COVID-19 throughout the Northland.

“This is a hopeful sign in our community’s fight against COVID-19,” said Dr. Nick Van Deelen, Interim Co-President/CEO & Chief Medical Officer. “We know that loved ones are integral to healing and we are so grateful to once again be able to allow many of our patients to have visitors.”

The following requirements will be strictly enforced for all St. Luke's visitors:

• Not be awaiting a COVID-19 test result or have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 14 days.
• Not have been asked to quarantine because of potential exposure to COVID-19.
• Not have any COVID-19 symptoms.
• Agree to properly wear an approved mask over their nose and mouth during their entire visit.
• Agree to leave immediately if they fail to comply with these rules.

It's important to note that if a patient has COVID-19, or is suspected of having the virus, then "no visitors are allowed until patient is no longer in isolation (no longer contagious). Rare exceptions may be made by the healthcare team on an invitation-only basis (for example: patients at end-of-life, vulnerable adults needing help with communication or decision-making)."
