Some recent renovations will create added storage space at an existing St. Louis County facility.  The Cook Home Barn - part of the Public Safety Complex on Rice Lake and Arrowhead Road - will see improvements of $607,000 to allow for additional use.

The building is the last original structure from the former Poor Farm - originally built in 1926.  Up to this point, the county has utilized the barn for some cold storage of vehicles.  The upgrades will allow for additional vehicles to be stored on the site, along with equipment, records and files, and more.

Improvements include structural work, windows, roof, siding, and electrical circuits.  According to officials, the work is expected to extend the use of the building by 90 years.
