A newly-created position has been filled, bringing a Director of operations to the St. Louis County Heritage and Arts Center (aka The Depot) for the first time.  County administrators have announced that Mary Tennis will fill that role, with July 8 as her first day on the job.

According to information released by St. Louis County, the Director position for The Depot will "....[I]mprove the management and operations of the facility, and....work with the tenant organizations, which include the Lake Superior Railroad Museum, North Shore Scenic Railroad, Duluth Art Institute, St. Louis County Historical Society, Duluth Playhouse, Minnesota Ballet and Arrowhead Chorale.The ultimate goal is to ensure the Depot remains a vibrant and sustainable facility in downtown Duluth".

Tennis comes to St. Louis County with experience in both business and the arts.  She managed the Northern Waters Smokehaus for many years and is current president of the Duluth Public Arts Commission.

For her part, Tennis has three primary goals for her new position:  Increase attendance and introduce new exhibits, and add more creature comforts to the facility.
