April showers bring May flowers, at least as the saying goes. However, it could bring some localized minor flooding this week as the Northland finally sees some much needed rain. Wildfire danger has been high as many parts of the Northland saw much less snowpack this year. That meant things dried up pretty quick. High winds and a mild march have already caused some grass fires across the Northland. One this last weekend north of Silver Bay led to officials closing a section of Highway 61 as they tried to get it under control.

Monday night the Northland saw a few thunderstorms roll through ahead of another front. Another slow moving system is moving into the region Tuesday-Saturday (4/6-4/10) which has the potential to bring quite a bit of rain. The Twin Ports is expected to see 1.5-2.0 inches of snow. South of the Twin Ports could see as much as 2-3 inches. The Iron Range is expected to see 2-2.5 inches of snow.

The National Weather Service in Duluth is warning people that high rainfall could lead to ponding of water and localized minor flooding. Water that pools on roadways could lead to hydroplaning, which can cause you to lose control of your car.

Remember, if roadways due get completely covered with water in sections, you should not try to cross it. Only a few inches of moving water can sweep a car away. While rain is expected, they do not expect severe weather in this system.

We also spoke with our news partners WDIO Storm Team meteorologist Brandon Weathers this morning. He expects the rain to arrive tonight later, and will definitely be a good "soaker."
