Slash to Headline L.A. Zoo’s 50th Anniversary Beastly Ball With Virtual Reality Show
Slash has shown his love and support for the L.A. Zoo in the past, shooting commercial spots with fellow animal lover Betty White, so it makes sense that the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association board trustee would lend his musical talents when asked for the zoo's 50th Anniversary Beastly Ball.
The May 20 benefit show, which will also feature Jack Black, Grace Potter and Bernard Fowler and is taking place at the L.A. Zoo, will be sponsored by Citi, Live Nation and NextVR, with the latter entity bringing viewers a virtual reality experience tied to the event. Slash's performance will be broadcast in virtual reality, while fans will also have a chance to access a VR behind-the-scenes footage feature, a look at his rehearsal and an interview with the guitarist.
According to Billboard, the live VR content will also be available on a Google Daydream or Samsung Gear VR headset, along with a compatible smartphone, by downloading the NextVR app from the Oculus store for GearVR or the Google Play store for Daydream. The show itself will be part of the "Backstage With Citi" concert series.
"I'm honored and proud to be a part of the L.A. Zoo's 50th Anniversary Beastly Ball," said Slash in a statement. "It's going to be the biggest yet, and I'm really looking forward to jamming live with some good friends."
In addition to the music, those on hand can take part in a live auction, while there will also be a mobile-bidding silent auction taking place during the evening as well. The L.A. Zoo's new Species Conservation Action Network will use the proceeds to help identify and respond to urgent animal conservation issues around the world.
