From March 7 to March 17, when you buy a shamrock shake at McDonald's, 25 cents of every shake will go to Ronald McDonald House Duluth.

The minty-flavored Shamrock Shakes are back at local McDonald’s restaurants, and during designated days in March, it will benefit the new Ronald McDonald House in Duluth.  Participating McDonald's in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Ironwood, Michigan will donate 25 cents of each Shamrock Shake. Minneapolis, Rochester, and Duluth Charities will benefit.

The Ronald McDonald House Northland is located on the fourth floor of Essentia Health's Fifth Avenue Building. The Ronald McDonald House gives people a place to stay when their child is being treated for something major where they have to be in town for a substantial amount of time. It becomes a financial burden to get a hotel and take care of other needs.  The house offers meals, free laundry service, a place to stay and enjoy a hot shower and take care of themselves before they take care of their child.

Ever wonder how it started? Here's the history of the house according to the website:

When Philadelphia Eagles tight end Fred Hill's 3-year-old daughter, Kim, was being treated for leukemia in 1974, his life changed. he and his wife, Fran, camped out on hospital benches and sat in cramped waiting rooms during Kim's three years of treatment. The Hills watched other parents and families of seriously ill children do the same thing. Fred rallied the support of his teammates to raise funds.  Dr. Audrey Evans, head of the pediatric oncology unit at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia had long dreamed of a "home away from home" for families of children being treated at her hospital. The milkshakes were green - the Eagles' color! It was the next promotion for McDonald's, and with the support of McDonald's founder Ray Kroc and regional manager Ed Rensi, Tuckerman launched a week-long promotion around the Shamrock Shake, with all profits to be donated to the cause.

So, stop by your participating area McDonald's from March 7 to March 17 and buy a Shamrock Shake, 25 cents of each one will benefit Duluth's Ronald McDonald House.
