The Minnesota Department of Transportation has good news and bad news when it comes to seat belt use in our area;  The good news is that use of seat belts has increased in northeastern Minnesota but the bad news is that it still lags behind the rest of the state.

In a new survey that the MnDOT has just issued, it shows that drivers in our area have an 80.5 percent compliance rate - which is an increase from last years 80.3 percent compliance rate.  The study was conducted in April and compares this years results to last years.

Officials say that this represents good news - but - still needs improvement.  Statewide, seat belt use is at 93.6 percent.
