One of Duluth's newest hotels is getting state-wide recognition.  The Economic Development Association of Minnesota has recognized the Pier B Resort Hotel with their 2017 Excellence in Economic Development Award in the Redevelopment category.  The award recognizes the work that Pier B owners and the City of Duluth did to re-purpose the former LaFarge Cement site on the waterfront.

According to the collateral piece issued by the EDAM, they chose Pier B for their "creative and bold redevelopment project led by private developers".  Long empty and unused, the LaFarge site now houses one of the more-popular new destinations by the lake, with outdoor seating and lots of indoor space that utilizes plenty of glass work to allow for views of the waterfront.

Early on, developers with Pier B partnered with the City of Duluth to secure access to $1.5 million in clean up grants.
