The Amsoil Center in Superior is the site of a special event to help kick off Operation K-9!  Come out Thursday, June 5 from 4:40 til 8 for a fun afternoon of activities for the whole family as part of a focus-event for the Northland K-9 Foundation.

Guests will be able to see the K-9's from the four participating law enforcement agencies demonstrate their skills and talent.  Admission is free, but donations are welcome.

The Amsoil Northland Law Enforcement K-9 Foundation supports the current and future K-9 needs of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, the Duluth Police Department, St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, and the Superior Police Department.

The K-9's used by our law enforcement agencies are specially bred and highly trained.  They are continually trained and tested for as long as they're on the force to prove their agility, effectiveness, and obedience.  Here are examples of some of the costs associated with the program:

  • $12,000 - $18,000 - Initial dog purchase
  • $3,500 - Kennel and safety accessories for the vehicle
  • $1,100 - K-9 vest
  • $1,000+ - Annual ongoing training costs for dog and officer
  • $900 - Annual routine vet costs
  • $800 - Food for a year
