The winter season is the middle of Fire Season - according to officials with the Northland Chapter of the American Red Cross.  They've had a busy season so far, and want to remind Northlanders to practice fire safety.

Recently, volunteers with the local Red Cross responded to a Deer River fire that destroyed a home on Chase Lake Road on Thursday.  The victims were provided with emergency shelter, food, clothing, and seasonal wear.

The Northland Chapter of the American Red Cross responds to about 100 local disasters annually - providing emergency housing, food, clothing, medicine and medical supplies, eyeglasses, health services, and disaster counseling.  Relief takes the form of pre-loaded debit cards which are used in local businesses by clients, pumping up to $100,000 in charitable contributions back into the community in which it serves,

The Northland Chapter covers almost 19,000 square miles across northern Minnesota and Wisconsin, and serves 364,800 people.
