The former Shorty's Smoked Meat & Pizza location in downtown Superior will soon have a new business occupying the building. This comes after the Superior Plan Commission altered a small business grant development, according to the Superior Telegram.

Shorty's closed in the spring of 2021, citing the fact that they were having a hard time finding employees to staff the business. They also had the business for sale previously.

The new business will be Bucktales Cantina & Grill Downtown. Bucktales has previously been a Mexican restaurant located near Pattison Park south of Superior. It's unclear at this time if the original location will remain open. Bucktales has been a favorite of many, and a hidden gem of Mexican cuisine. They have a strong Facebook review rating of 4.9 stars. That's hard to do!  I've been to Bucktales a few times, and it's been very good food. Now, Superior will once again have more Mexican restaurant options.

Owners Damaso and Mary Ellen Morales have recieved a small business grant of $25,000 to help with estimated costs for repairing and establishing the business. Costs are estimated at $78,395. They originally were going to be acquiring the Fuller's Family Restaurant location, but that deal fell through. Now they are a step closer to the new downtown location at 1015 Tower, Avenue.

The agreement isn't finalized, however. The Superior City Council will review the agreement on November 2nd. It's hard to imagine that they would not approve this, as they should be happy to see an empty building being put to use downtown. Tower Avenue in Superior has seen a lot of great changes and a revitalization in recent years. Here's hoping the new business does well and sticks around.
