The face of Downtown Duluth continues to change, with three new tenants opening up shop in the Holiday Center on Superior Street. During a media event on Tuesday, Mayor Emily Larson was joined by Greater Downtown Council President Kristi Stokes to announce the filling of a three vacancies in the downtown business and retail center.
Valentini's, which currently operates "Valentini's To Go" on the second floor of the Holiday Center, has opened a new retail outlet called "Valentini's Old Marketplace". This new business will offer wholesale foods and sauces, take home meals, cooking classes, and more. Joining the new Valentini's retail space on the second floor is a new salon, called "Belle Aventure Salon". This full-service salon is being staffed by some of the experienced stylists from the former Younkers salon at the Miller Hill Mall. Both Belle Aventure and Valentini's Old Marketplace are open for business.
Filling a significant vacancy in the Holiday Center is Townsquare Media, which will move in to the old Brownie Furniture location in 2019. This move for stations MIX 108, B105, KOOL 101.7, and Sasquatch 106.5 will provide street-side studio space for their live and local programming, as well as easy access for businesses and individuals visiting the stations, conducting business, picking up prizes, or attending station events.
During the media event, Townsquare Media Market President Mary Niemeyer expressed enthusiasm about moving from Central Entrance to the Holiday Center. Both she and Operations Manager David Drew are excited to bring state-of-the-art broadcast facilities and new energy to an area of Duluth that is already seeing such revitalization. The tentative date for the new studio spaces to be open is November of 2019.
