Coon Rapids, MN (KROC-AM News) - A 21-year-old Minnesota woman is headed to prison for driving drunk and claiming the life of a pregnant woman last summer.

According to the criminal complaint filed against Makayla April Sue Richardson in Anoka County Court, a preliminary breath test measured her blood-alcohol-concentration at .18 following the crash that killed 26-year-old Melinda Thao of Coon Rapids. Her unborn child later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The court document says Richardson, who is from Mounds View, was intoxicated and pulling a trailer with a pickup when she drove through a red light at an intersection in Coon Rapids last August. Her pickup ended up smashing into Thao's SUV as the victim was making a left turn on a green arrow.
