Minnesota Twins Will Bring Back Nelson Cruz For 2020 Season

The 2019 Minnesota Twins season may have ended with a whimper, but it was a fun summer and a key piece of the Twins offense will be returning for the 2020 season.

Multiple sources are reporting that the Twins will pick up Nelson Cruz's option.  The designated hitter signed a one-year $14 million deal last offseason with the club option for 2020.

According to Twinsbaseball.com:

Though Cruz turned 39 years old during the 2019 season, he still enjoyed one of the most productive campaigns of his 15-year career, as he led the Twins with a .311/.392/.639 batting line -- the best slugging percentage and OPS of his career -- and also paced the Bomba Squad with 41 homers. His 1.031 OPS was second in the American League behind only Mike Trout.

Even if Cruz doesn't match those numbers next year, he is by all accounts a tremendous influence in the clubhouse and having him mentor Miguel Sanó for another season is also very beneficial.

Now the Twins front office needs to focus on pitching moving forward.  It's time time get aggressive and vastly improve the starting rotation as well as add another reliable arm or two to the bullpen.
